Keep the Leather Working
Clean lightly. Condition sparingly. Leather needs care, not a heavy coat of everything on the shelf.
SMPLMN / Practical notes

Identify the finish
Smooth finished leather, suede, nubuck, and coated leather do not all take the same products. Read the maker’s care guidance and test a hidden area first. Check stitching, buckles, and flex points for damage. Conditioner cannot close a deep crack or restore the strength of a failed strap. Set safety-critical or badly damaged gear aside for professional assessment.
Clean without soaking
Brush off loose dirt with an appropriate soft brush. For compatible leather, use a suitable cleaner sparingly and wipe away residue as directed. Let the item dry naturally, away from direct heat. Do not immerse it or speed the process with a radiator. The aim is to remove abrasive grit without stripping the finish or saturating the fibers.
Use less, then wait
Apply a compatible conditioner in small amounts and let it absorb according to the label. Extra oil can darken the material and change its feel without improving it. Finish only with protection suited to the leather’s use. Keep gear dry and inspect it regularly. Ordinary maintenance is cheaper than neglect, but knowing when a piece is beyond repair matters too.
